A Relaxed & Natural Newborn Session in Wandsworth, London
As a newborn photographer in Wandsworth, London, I have the privilege of capturing some of the most special moments in a family's life. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful newborn girl during a relaxed, natural session on a crisp autumn morning. It was her parents’ first baby, and the love and excitement they had for her was truly heartwarming.
A Cozy Autumn Morning
I always photography in my clients homes, as I believe that your home is part of your story and gives an extra layer of magic to your photographs. It was an overcast morning but we still got plenty of light and spent the majority of the session in the bedroom. My approach is less about giving very specific poses but more prompting for different ways you could maybe hold your little one, and then usually things often happen quite naturally. We chat, get to know each other and without you realising we are capturing the most beautiful authentic photographs of your little family. I always aim to keep things relaxed, allowing parents and baby to enjoy the moment without feeling rushed.
Creating a Calm, Relaxed Atmosphere
One of the things I love most about being a newborn photographer is the flexibility to work at a baby's pace. During this session, the little one needed a feed partway through. This is completely normal and part of the natural flow of newborn photography. I always make sure there’s plenty of time for feeding breaks, nappy changes, or simply giving baby a cuddle. This ensures everyone feels comfortable, allowing me to capture those authentic, candid moments.
Capturing the Nursery’s Charm
We also moved into their beautifully decorated nursery for some photos. A nursery is certainly not a must but if you have one, then it’s always a lovely idea to capture some photos in this room too. A room you probably spent a lot of time decorating carefully - in this case with a really stunning cloud wallpaper, which created a lovely backdrop for the pictures. The nursery felt so personal and full of love, a perfect reflection of the care and thoughtfulness they’ve put into preparing for their baby girl's arrival.
Why I Love Natural Newborn Photography
I focus on capturing relaxed, natural moments rather than posing the baby in elaborate setups. This approach allows for genuine emotions to shine through—the tender way a mother cradles her newborn or the quiet moments shared between parents as they gaze at their little one. It’s these moments that tell a story, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. That said, if you have any specific toys, knitted blankets etc. you would like to feature, I will always try to incorporate them in a fun and natural way.
