Reasons To Book An In-Home Newborn Photoshoot

Capturing those early days is something very special. There are tons of different ways to capture those days, from posed studio shoots, lifestyle studio shoots to relaxed in-home newborn sessions. I’m a big fan of the latter and here’s why.

  1. Relaxed

You just had a baby, you might still be recovering from birth. You won’t have a routine at this stage and trying to get out of the house can feel like a real chore, especially if you have to be somewhere at a specific time. With in-home sessions you don’t have this added stress. You get ready in the comfort of your own home, if you are not fully ready by the time I arrive, that’s totally fine. I’ll just scout a few locations in the meantime or start with the detail shots of your little baby or with mum/dad - whoever might be ready.

2. Your Home Is Part Of Your Story

Your home, your memories. You’ve probably put a lot of thought into making your home your sanctuary. It will reflect your character and style. Compared to a studio we will have a variety of locations to take pictures in. During a newborn session I would typically shoot in the living room, bedroom, nursery (if you have one) and sometimes kitchen. It will give you more of a homestory feel and makes it all a bit more relaxed being able to move from location to location rather than being in the same spot. And lastly, being in London there is a good chance this won’t be your forever home. The memories of the space you raised your little ones in will be priceless.

3. Siblings & Pets

Being at home in their comfort zone will make it a lot easier to work with your older children. They will be able to play with their toys in-between getting photos taken, you have drinks and snacks readily available for them and don’t need to panic that you have forgotten to bring XYZ to keep them entertained.

Also if you have pets, we can include them in some photos as well. Ultimately, they are part of the family too!

4. Detail shots

This applies to all newborn photoshoot types. You really want to capture those tiny details. the flaky skin, tiny toes and button noses. As my style is very relaxed and baby-led, I don’t necessarily need your little one to be fast asleep and wrapped up. If your newborn just wants lots of cuddles on the day of the shoot, I’ll make sure we still get those pictures, but it might be a case of you holding your little one while I capture all these lovely details.

5. Plenty of Time

I only schedule one session per day. Most session last for about one and a half to two hours. But if your little one is cluster feeding that day or just very unsettled, I do have time to stay a bit longer and ensure we got all the pictures we wanted to get!
