Top 5 Poses For Your Newborn Photoshoot

I love newborn photoshoots. These tiny little humans that conquer the hearts of their parents within the second they are born. Probably even before! While each newborn photoshoot is different - some babies sleep through the entire session, others are just wide awake - there are some poses that will certainly work.

On Chest

Most babies just feel very comfortable in this pose. Listening to the heart beat of mum or dad. A sound so familiar in a world that is completely new to them. It’s one of the most natural newborn holds.

Standard Cradle

This is a must haves simply to emphasise how teeny tiny they are in those early days. Isn’t it amazing how they just seem to fit in your arms? Often dad’s hands provide great impact for this shot. It’s one you will definitely want to see in your gallery.

Newborn Details

There is just something special about tiny baby feet and hands. I don’t know if it’s the wrinkles, the flaky skin or the tiny nails (which, mind you, are incredibly sharp!). These shots are best taken when the baby is asleep or very calm, so there isn’t much movement and we can really capture the details.

Lying Down on the Bed

Let’s be honest… you’ll likely spend a lot of time in your bed during those early days and rightly so! Lying down on a bed just gives us a different perspective and variety of shoots for your gallery. It’s a great way to bond with your little one, gazing into their eyes, cuddling and playing with them as you would naturally do anyways.

Between Mum & Dad

I love this pose as it really gets you close together. With this you get the nicest gazes at the baby but also at each other. There is just so much admiration for one another during this special time and it really shows!

These are just a few of many go to poses we can try on the day. I’m very much led by the family and most importantly the baby. Newborn sessions should be relaxed for all, that’s why I allocate plenty of time for them. Often sessions are wrapped up within an hour, other times it might be 2-3 hours depending on how often the baby needs to feed, get changed etc. Regardless of the length - I am confident that we will be able to capture some beautiful memories!
